THE PHILADELPHIA School Partnership has awarded a $1.5 million grant to Wissahickon Charter School, funds that will help it double in size by 2017.

The Nicetown school, a K-8 charter with 450 students, plans on constructing a second campus that is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014 in East Germantown. The new school, which will eventually enroll 500 students, is close to the Awbury Arboretum, a convenient proximity for the school and its environmental focus, said co-CEO Kristi Littell.
