We are excited to share the first in a series of Great Schools Fund investments over the coming weeks. This morning, we announced that PSP’s Great Schools Fund will award a $500,000 incubation grant to Independence Mission Schools, a nonprofit managing and planning the growth of 16 Catholic elementary schools in low-income neighborhoods of Philadelphia. Read more about the investment in today’s Inquirer.
Many of the Mission Schools – currently serving about 4,200 students with the capacity to serve 1,000 more – already outperform schools in the same neighborhood in reading and math. Our investment is part of an effort to identify what’s working and leverage this success to expand enrollment and ensure the schools’ sustainability. Learn more here.
This grant brings our Great Schools Fund investment total to $9.8 million dollars in more than a dozen schools of all types. Over the next several weeks, we plan to announce additional Great Schools Fund grants that will help grow some of Philadelphia’s best charter, district, and private schools so that every child in every neighborhood can attend a great school. As always, we invite you to join us in this effort.
